If you are looking for a great electric guitar and have a budget of about £500 ($1000) you could do a lot worse than check out these beauties!

Yamaha Pacifica - An amazing guitar considering the price. An instrument that looks fantastic and sounds even better. Two single coil pick-ups (neck and centre) and a great sounding humbucker in the bridge that can be split to single coil by using the pull-push pot on the tone control. A vintage style strat bridge with a trem bar adds a touch of cool to an already stunning package. Colours are great too with a vintage blue and cracking vintage sunburst being favorites. The price? An incredible  £199 here in the UK but shop around, I know someone who just got one for £160.

Squire- Strat and Tele - Fenders entry level models based on their classic big brothers, these can be VERY affordable. All the pick-up combinations that you would expect and all those great Fender finishes. Fender tone on a budget! You can pick up entry level models at around £129 but spend a bit more if you can. Try the Squire deluxe series , complete with upgraded pick-ups, translucent colours and tortoise shell pick guards.

Epiphone Les Paul - Everybody wants a Les Paul and with the Epiphone range we all can! Some fantastic models on offer for well under the £500 budget. You can choose between some beautiful flame-tops, solid colours and gold hardware. Our pick would be the cool as hell Black Beauty , black finish with gold hardware and three humbucker pick-ups!!! Tone!!!! Don't forget to check out the SG if you would prefer that 'AC/DC' sound!

Gibson SG Special - Hard to believe that you can pick up a genuine USA Gibson SG for under £500 here in the uk but it's true! The SG Special has a 'no-nonsense' approach. It has a stain finish , two uncovered Gibson humbuckers, a through neck, dot inlays and a rosewood fingerboard. Every inch a real SG on a budget. You can grab one for £459 here in the UK. School uniform not included!

There you go then , a quick guide to getting great tone for not a massive amount of money. You won't go far wrong with any of these guitars but our personal choice would be the Yamaha Pacifica and the Gibson SG Special. Go try em out!
