6/8 Ballad Rhythm - Lesson Notes
These lessons focus on creating a strong ballad feel. In this case we will use a time signature of 6/8. This
means that the bar length is six 1/8th notes long. You should count this as '1&2&3&'. With this time signature
in place the piece takes on a very focused ballad feel similar to songs such as Still Got The Blues by Gary Moore.
The chords used are quite simple and the feel of the song really adds an air of sophistication. Play all notes
as smoothly as you can and let the notes ring into each other. Sometimes guitar players see chords as
secondary to lead, always spend time as a guitarist to sort out good, solid rhythm guitar playing.
You could use a pick or your fingers to play this piece, just make sure that which-ever way you decide to go
that the notes are even and full of tone.
