2/4 Rhythm Playing - Lesson Guide Notes

The Beatles used this very distinct rhythm sound on the their classic  track 'Penny Lane'.

Count 2/4 time as 1,2,1,2, for more on this check Guitar Practiced Perfectly software.

We start the study with a simple idea, a C5 chord is played and the bass note is moved down to B, then A, then G. This creates slash chords and gives a very sophisticated sound against this simple idea. I used downstrokes for most of this study as I think this really helps with the 'marching band' feel of 2/4 time.  Oasis's first UK single 'Free' used this moving bass note idea.

The study continues in a similar fashion except the F and G chords are replaced with Major 7 and 7sus4 chords , the latter is featured in another Beatle's classic 'A Hard Days Night' as the opening chord.

To add a different feel I changed the way the chords are played later on in the study by alternating between the root note and the rest of the chord on every beat. Watch the videos to get a better feel of how this sounds.
