Creative Arpeggios - Lesson Notes
The reason we should all learn to play arpeggios is because they use chord tones. Chord tones are very melodic and have been used in some of the most memorable guitar solos of all time, most notably the Hotel California guitar solo by The Eagles.
In our lessons we have used a collection of 5 string arpeggios. They are Major, minor and diminished - all your triad chord arpeggios. Check out Guitar Practiced Perfectly software for more on triads and arpeggios.
Play through the first three lessons and just try to memorize the shapes and play them smoothly.
If you consider a chord scale at triad stage is possible using all the arpeggio types of lessons 1 - 3 , why not use these arpeggios to play chord progressions?
Lesson 4 shows a really simplified idea using a 2 chord progression.
In Lesson 5 we use a I, IV, V progression in the key of D Major.
Don't leave it there, look at your favorite songs or chord progressions and work them out. One of our favorites is taking the classic House of The Rising Sun by The Animals and playing it as arpeggios. Sounds great.
As Always experiment!
